Reflective Address Signs
Reflective address signs as you can see here are
extremely helpful to the Fire, EMS, and Law
Enforcement Personnel. There are so many
different types of numbers out there, as well as
different media to put them on. We see addresses
on mailboxes rocks, landscape features, sides of
the houses, different sides of the mailboxes, ect. Since
there is no required standard, in most places, safety
personnel need to be extremely alert and in many cases it requires a significant difference in response time. Many times as the crews are approaching the scene, the personnel are discussing their responsibilities, what needs to happen first, patient information, scene information, and if the driver has to ask for help looking for a house it takes away from the other important discussions.
Obviously we recommend purchasing one of these types of signs, either from our Department or another. We would recommend getting the sign with numbers on both sides of the sign and placing it so you can see the number from each direction. Many times mailboxes only have addresses on the side of the mailbox the mail comes from, but that's not necessarily the direction the safety personnel will respond from.
