Fire Hydrant Page

As you drive down the roadway look at the fire hydrants

located in Scioto Township.  There are areas where some

development has taken place and fire hydrants are plentiful.

Then, in the northern areas of the Township, where waterlines

haven't yet made it, they are few and far between.

The Scioto Township Fire Department has a log and map of all hydrants within the Township.  All hydrants will be inspected at least one time every year.  The tests are conducted in a manner consistent with what the Del-Co Water Company has recommended.

What can homeowners do to help?

All of the hydrants that we have logged should have a 1"-2" red reflective stripe around the top of it.  This makes a huge difference when looking for a fill hydrant in the middle of the night under stressful conditions.  If you have a hydrant in your front yard or within sight of your residence there are a few items that you can do that would be helpful.

     1)  When mowing your yard, clear the weeds out from around the hydrant.  This will allow us to see the

           hydrant better day and night.

     2)  If you see the reflective tape coming off or in bad condition please contact us so we can get this fixed as

          soon as possible.

     3)  If you see a leak from around the hydrant, please let us or Del-Co Water know.  If you notify us, we will

inspect it and in turn contact Del-Co Water.  The hydrants do belong to Del-Co Water, but everyone

realizes the importance of them and works together to keep everything in working order.

If you know of a hydrant that is not listed on the above map or have a question regarding one of the hydrants, please feel free to contact us here at the department.
