Past Information
Grass 371 Grass 371 is now in operation. The truck has been extremely affective on the fires it has been on already. The truck includes several items which makes it very unique, and very helpful on fire scenes. The truck has a 200 gallon poly water tank with dual 1" reel lines with 100' of line. This allows the firefighters to get far into the brush to put the needed amount of water on the fire. It also includes a section of 1.5" attack hose that can help out on slightly larger fires or help protect exposures. The 6 gallon foam system allows the fire to be coated with fire retardant foam that helps keep the fire from returning. There is also a front mounted nozzle that is remote controlled from the cab of the truck. The nozzle was paid for from a grant for the US Department of Forestry.
In addition to the items above, there is a winch system capable of being used from the front or rear of the vehicle, as well as additional lighting for fire/rescue scenes.
Rescue 371 Rescue371 is also now in operation. The Rescue is same manufacturer as our lead Engine 371. Pierce Manufacturing, of Sarasota, Florida put together the design that a team of their representatives and our firefighters came up with. The Rescue is an important part of the fire/rescue service. This apparatus will be used on almost all runs within Scioto Township. While it's main use is for auto accidents and rescue operations, it will be a major support truck on EMS scenes and fire operations.
Just a few of the highlights of the truck: 1) Front Mounted Rescue Tools, sometimes referred to as the "Jaws of Life". These tools are hooked to the truck with 100' of line that doesn't require a separate power plant to operate. The tools run off the truck itself. A huge time saver when needed fast on an accident scene.
2) Light Tower: The light tower has 6 halogen lights that extend 27' in the air and rotate individually to help illuminate the accident/fire scenes.
3) Cascade System: A very useful tool, not only for Scioto Township, but Delaware and Union County as well. This system includes a fail-safe refilling station that is capable of filling two SCBA bottles at once. It is powered by 6 - 6000 lbs cascade tanks. This system is capable of filling all types of SCBA bottles on a fire scene.
4) CAFS System: Compressed Air Foam System is a slight "replacement" for the traditional water tank and pump on a fire truck. This is a smaller fast attack system that doesn't take up the room, weight, or money that a traditional tank/pump would. It uses a small amount of water, mixed with larger amounts of firefighting foam.
Laptop Computer - Mapping Software Engine 371 and Rescue 371 has been outfitted with a new Panasonic Toughbook and MECCMAP. This is the latest edition for the Department to keep using new technology to help the response times as low as possible. The laptops were specificallydesigned with public service in mind. They are heavy duty, able to be dropped, work under extreme heat (or lackthere of !), and waterproof. We have installed numerous software packages on the machines, but the one that stands out is the latest MECCMAP software that allows the responding personnel to get a specific map of the are we are responding to along with a aerial (digital ortho) image of the area.
