Rescue 371
Rescue 371 is a Pierce Contender, manufactured at the Pierce facility in Florida. The body is a very similar body and cab style as Engine 371. This allowed for less driver's training due to the similarities between the two vehicles and everyone was already familiar with the mechanical layout and cab design.
Rescue 371 has several specific incident-type items.
Examples are the front mount hydraulic tools (Jaws-of-Life). These are tools that are hooked up and ready to go. They run off an electric hydraulic pump that is instantly engaged with the flip of a switch, no setup time helps extract vehicle or other victims more quickly than conventional measures.
Top mount light tower. Many incidents occur at night and in the area we cover there are very few overhead lights. The light tower has the power to light up entire crash sites, intersections, and fire scenes.
Mobile Cascade system (SCBA fill site). Rescue 371 has six 6,000 SCBA bottles that can fill MANY smaller bottles. These are the bottles the firefightes wear as they go in contaminated areas or fire scenes. Sometimes you hear, incorrectly, referred to as Oxygen bottles, these bottles are filled with normal air. Because of this feature Scioto Fire goes on many mutual aid runs to help or neighboring fire departments.
