Tanker 371
Tanker 371 is a 2000 gallon tanker. This truck is one of the best tankers in the fire service today. Due to the small amount of hydrants in our area, we must bring our own water to most fires. Most departments in the area rely on each other through mutual aid agreements that allow each department to send tankers to each other's fire scenes.
The way a tanker shuttle works is the first or second engine in
the scene would set up a "dump tank". These are like mini swimming pools
that are easily stored on the trucks and can be set up for use in a matter of
seconds. Tanker 371 carries a 2000 gallon dump tank. Once set up the
engine can draft from the pool of water much like drafting from a pond or river.
Tankers come by, drop their water, and continue on to the nearest fill site.
Tanker 371 has the unique capability of easily dumping from either side and rear via the dump shutes you can see in the picture above. These dump shutes can be controlled via small panel on the back of the truck or from the drivers seat. The driver literally does not have to leave the cab of the truck to perform the job.
Tanker 371 also carries a portable pump that would allow us to set up a fill site at a pond or river.
